This happens after returning home to a surprise birthday party for the real Big Momma. His discovery is witnessed by Sherry, who tells him she had no idea what Lester was planning, and did not report her key was stolen out of fear of being fired. Two undercover FBI agents, Malcolm Turner and John Maxwell, find themselves assigned by their boss to track down the escaped convict, Lester Vesco, who was serving a life sentence for murder and the armed robbery of a bank. Malcolm and John learn that Lester may be seeking to find his ex-girlfriend, Sherry Pierce, an employee of the bank who is suspected of supplying him with a key to the vault, as the money that was stolen was never recovered. Discovering that Bishop plans to kill Tom as part of the deal he made with his customer, Malcolm saves his life and ensures Bishop cannot escape before the FBI arrives. Although shocked to discover Malcolm's real identity, Tom is thankful to him when he informs Morales that he was being coerced by his boss under the threat of having his family killed for refusing.

Malcolm and John are sent to Cartersville, Georgia to stake out the house of a elderly woman, Hattie Mae Pierce (simply known as "Big Momma") who is the grandmother of Lester's ex-girlfriend, Sherry Pierce. The FBI suspects that Sherry aided him during the robbery by giving him the key to the vault. Big Momma unexpectedly leaves town for a couple of weeks, the two sneak into her house and Sherry calls the house and Malcolm disguises his voice as Big Momma in order to lure Sherry and possibly obtain a confession.
